How Can Boards Best Support Retiring CEOs?

It is essential that boards select a chief executive that is the best fit for the organization; it is also important that the transition between the retiring CEO and the incoming one be smooth and effective.  In a recent article in The Corporate Board, Paul Bohne, Witt/Kieffer senior vice president and Eastern region co-leader, writes about the ways to ensure a successful CEO transition.

“CEO transitions involve not just forethought and planning,” writes Bohne, “but also tactfulness and an appreciation of the human element of retirement.” Bohne offers a number of tips to ensure that boards and CEOs partner in the transition phase.
