Opportunities to move into president and CEO roles continue to flourish in health care and higher education, according to Witt/Kieffer’s annual Executive Placement Study. The annual study analyzes executives recruited for the firm’s clients including hospitals and health systems, academic medical centers, colleges and universities and other not-for-profit organizations. It represents a glimpse into the firm’s 336 placements by organization, job type, prior position and compensation and benefits.
Of presidents/CEOs, 22 percent held the COO role prior to their career move and another 21 percent were vice presidents of operations/administration. Chief Medical Officers (CMOs), consultants, diversity officers, marketing executives and others also transitioned in the chief executive/presidential suite in 2009.
