Job Hunt Like a CEO

Job applicants can learn from top executives when it comes to job research and interviewing. While it is important to portray strengths, experience and skills there are other factors that influence the hiring decision. CEOs speak to their own metrics and successes while conveying passion for the job. 

Additionally, Elaina Genser, Witt/Kieffer senior vice president and Western region managing director, says it is vital to do your homework and gather basic facts about an employer before the interview. “Show sincere interest in the organization and why it attracts you as opposed to you just needing a job,” Genser says. “This says a lot.”

Genser also points that out that good leaders listen, think then respond. “Sometimes people just can’t stop talking,” she says. “Answer the questions they ask, and if they want more then you can clarify.”
