Candidate Resources Find a Position

Opportunities Expanding for Those Over 65

Job hunters over age 65 bring decades of wisdom and experience to any position, making them some of the most sought-after candidates. Witt/Kieffer senior vice president and Eastern region co-director Kim Smith recently discussed the appeal of this group of job seekers in an article appearing on LifeGoesStrong.com. "[Organizations] need people who are battle-tested, who will make decisions based not on their own career future but for the right reasons," says Smith.

More and more positions are being filled by candidates who are retirement age. In 2002, just 3% of Witt/Kieffer’s C-suite placements were over age 60; last year that percentage had risen to 14%. Candidates in this age group find success in certain roles because they tend to have valuable experience. "When there's a high level of self-awareness, candidates fare far better," Smith says.
