The lines between public and private health plans have become blurred, due to mergers and acquisitions in the industry. Health plan leaders with experience in both public and private plans are highly coveted – but in short supply.  In this Witt and Wisdom Q&A, Witt/Kieffer senior partner Mark Andrew, discusses the consolidation implications for health plans, and the resulting leadership challenges.

In an industry that is evolving, it is more important than ever for a health plan to define the strengths and weaknesses of its leadership team. “Top executives need to develop their own skills, of course, but also surround themselves with people who can drive results and provide business discipline and rigor while being able to build consensus around a vision and still work effectively with legislators and regulators, says Andrew. “Health plans are looking for people who are comfortable with both sectors, and this need is only going to grow.”
