Manage Divided Loyalties During Transition

Power shifts often impact the entire organization – from the leadership team on down. For those who have worked closely with a departing leader through years of success, there may be a tendency to side with that person. After all, that person has been a boss, friend and mentor. However, as a new CEO comes on it becomes important to be loyal to that leader for the good of the company.

As Chuck Wardell, Witt/Kieffer president and CEO, recently wrote in Talent Management, “The divisions formed in these situations can disrupt and compromise the entire business.” Wardell offers a set of guidelines for leading an organization successfully through a leadership transition.
