Meaningful Use Gains Momentum in Health Care IT

Health care providers are charged with using electronic health record (EHR) technology in a meaningful way, which includes improving the delivery and quality of care. Meaningful use is becoming a hot topic in health care information technology (IT) as health care organizations receive incentives for meeting certain government criteria. At this year’s HIMSS conference, the topic of meaningful use generated quite a bit of buzz and clinician interest. Physicians with experience in selecting and implementing EHR systems are in high demand, writes consultant Hillary Ross.
Physicians with a focus on optimization and transformation of these systems will be pivotal to providers who want to achieve meaningful use. The most successful IT physicians will optimize and translate data garnered from the EHR to improve patient care, increase safety and reduce costs, according to Ross.
