Impending CEO retirements and the "5/50" leadership crisis are creating the need for sound health care talent management programs. In a recent presentation, “Talent Management: Now More than Ever,” Witt/Kieffer Senior Vice President Carson Dye, FACHE, differentiates between leadership development and leadership education, noting that 70 percent of talent growth is based through experience, whereas only 10 percent is gained through formal education. “For those learning to lead, experience trumps formal training,” says Dye.
Organizations can gear towards successful leader development through a competency-based model, which focuses on the most desirable - yet least common - leadership competencies.
