Rethink the Expectations for New Athletic Directors

A college athletic director today must be something more than in the past, writes Witt/Kieffer's Greg Santore in the most recent edition of College Athletics and the Law. "From responsible budget management in a very bottom‐line‐conscious era to comprehensive knowledge of compliance issues, an effective AD is part accountant, ethics guru, character evaluator, event promoter, program advocate, fundraiser, networker, and more — almost on a daily basis."

Therefore, colleges and universities are rethinking the means by which they select an athletics director, with the big picture in mind rather than the sole priority of fielding winning teams.
