Witt/Kieffer has been retained by Blue Cross of Idaho to conduct a search for their new Medical Director. As the largest and oldest health insurance company in Idaho, Blue Cross of Idaho today provides coverage to approximately 30% of the state's population, and employs nearly 800 employees at its headquarters in Meridian, a suburb of Boise, as well as in five district offices. The company has experienced continuing success, including membership exceeding 400,000 members and improved customer satisfaction scores. Clients include Micron, Hewlett Packard, Coldwater Creek, and State of Idaho, among others. In 2004, the Plan was the fastest growing of all 40 Blue Plans in the United States, achieving an average membership growth rate of over 10% a year for the last three years. Projected annual revenues for 2006 are over $1 billion.
The Medical Director is responsible for leading Medical Services management including utilization management, disease management, quality management and support of collaborative relationships with physicians and hospitals. He/she will provide medical expertise and collaboration for all disease management, quality, pharmacy, care management, and medical review initiatives. The Medical Director will enhance productive relationships with all customers, employers, members, and providers to assure that members receive appropriate care and services in the most appropriate setting with the best value in health care. He/she will work collaboratively with the Actuarial, Marketing, Provider Services, and Claims functions to maintain optimal customer service while assuring contract defined resource management.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President/Medical Director, the Medical Director has overall responsibility for approximately 40 employees located in corporate offices in Meridian, Idaho.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years of clinical practice and experience in managed care, either with a medical group or health plan. Progressive experience managing disease management, quality management, utilization management, and pharmacy management functions is highly preferred. He/she should have proven strategic and operational skills, experience with health care quality improvement, and demonstrated proficiency in leading and/or facilitating physician groups. Understanding of health care financing and its relation to various health plan products and the health care delivery system is important. MD or DO degree and current unrestricted medical license in Idaho or eligibility to obtain unrestricted medical license in Idaho. Board certification by an ABMS recognized specialty board is preferred.
