Job Description
Indiana University Foundation
President
Bloomington, IN
Indiana University, one of the nation's most visible and successful research universities, stands poised to embark on an ambitious institutional journey under the leadership of its energetic, visionary new president. The fuel for this engine of growth and innovation will be provided by the Indiana University Foundation, an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated solely to providing financial support for the university. As the foundation and the university enter this exciting new era, the foundation board seeks a president to serve as its chief executive officer and to lead this highly productive organization to even greater levels of achievement.
Reporting to the foundation's board of directors - the chairman of which is the president of the university, Michael McRobbie - the foundation president will lead an organization that serves as the central development office for a university that has raised an average of nearly $265 million annually over the past five years and has executed $1 billion+ campaigns on two of its campuses. The foundation manages assets totaling $1.6 billion and has enjoyed investment returns of 14.6 percent over the past three years (and 13.6 percent over the past five years). Under the leadership of its retiring president, Curt Simic, the foundation has grown to be one of the nation's leaders in both fund raising and asset management. Still, the aspirations of the university dictate an even greater level of attainment, especially in fund raising.
Accomplishing this will require a leader with the energy, vision, and experience necessary to plot an ambitious course for the organization and to steer that course effectively. He or she will ideally have direct, successful experience in the leadership and management of an organization of similar size and complexity, preferably in higher education. The president is the chief development officer of Indiana University, and as such will build strong, sincere, and lasting relationships with key university actors - vice presidents, chancellors/provosts, deans, faculty, etc. - and especially with prospects, donors, and volunteers across the State of Indiana, the nation, and the globe. Experience with planning and leading campaigns and with the solicitation and stewardship of major and principal gifts is required.
The next president of the Indiana University Foundation will have the opportunity to lead an already successful organization to new levels of attainment, thereby making a personal mark on this great and historic university.
Candidates should provide a cover letter describing their interest in and qualifications for the position in the context of the themes outlined above, along with a curriculum vitae/resumé. All materials will be treated as confidential and can be submitted via email to IUFPres@wittkieffer.com. Material that cannot be emailed may be sent to:
