Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, Texas are jointly seeking a Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The new Chair will serve as the Physician-In-Chief at the new Texas Children's Maternity Center that will be completed in 2011. Initial plans for the free-standing maternity center are that it will be over 700,000 square feet with over 140 patient beds and a 36-bed Newborn Intensive Care Unit. This individual will be a key participant in the planning and leadership of the new maternity center.
The Chair of OBGYN will report to the Executive Dean of Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Jay Stein, as well as the President of Texas Children's Hospital, Mark Wallace.
The OBGYN department currently has over 25 full-time faculty members and more than 75 voluntary faculty members participating in clinical care, residency training and research. The department currently has an annual budget of $21 million and is comprised of seven divisions:
- General Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Gynecological Oncology
- Maternal Fetal Medicine
- Midwifery
- Pediatric Adolescent and Gynecology
- Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility
- Reproductive Genetics/Prenatal Diagnosis
The Chair will play a pivotal role in developing a vision for the Department and will be a significant contributor to the evolution of OBGYN services provided by Baylor College of Medicine as well as a number of partner institutions, including the Maternity Center.
The successful candidate must have proven experience as a leader who can inspire faculty and staff to work together to develop future leaders in the Department. It is also important that the candidate possess strong management skills with an ability to grow revenues and meet budgets, as well as excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of constituents both internally and externally.
Candidates should be qualified for faculty appointment in the Department of OBGYN, ideally at the rank of Professor. Candidates must be certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with ten years of practice experience and four years of academic practice leadership experience. The ideal candidate will have national recognition in the field of OBGYN as a clinician, clinician scientist, educator and/or physician leader.
