The American University in Cairo (AUC) was founded in 1919 with the purpose of offering an American-style education in Egypt. Today one of the leading private liberal arts universities in the region, AUC is an independent, non-sectarian institution accredited in the U.S. and Egypt. Its 5000 undergraduate and graduate students are mostly Egyptian, with international students coming from 100 other countries. Its Egyptian and American faculty, its research and outreach, and its highly regarded graduates, all make AUC an essential contributor to the educational, social, and cultural life of Egypt and the Arab world. In 2008 AUC will move its core academic programs to a new state-of-the-art campus on the outskirts of metropolitan Cairo, retaining its continuing education and certain other programs in its present location in downtown Cairo near the Nile. The University has just completed its first major capital campaign, surpassing its goal of $100 million and laying the groundwork for a sustainable advancement program for the future. Reporting to the President and Board of Trustees, the Vice President for Institutional Advancement is fully responsible for the design, implementation and management of the university's advancement program which solicits support from corporations, foundations and individuals in the United States, Middle East and Europe. The advancement division also includes the university's alumni affairs and strategic marketing/communications programs. The division is responsible for planning events and activities in the United States, Middle East and Europe. The Vice President for Institutional Advancement oversees a multinational professional and support staff of 45 located in Cairo and New York.
The ideal candidate will possess the executive leadership and relationship building skills necessary to lead and grow a contemporary advancement program for a multicultural institution. The candidate will possess a deep abiding interest in the future of education in a global society, the ability to inspire staff and to build effective, supportive relationships, and the cultural sensitivity to work in a multinational setting.
