Job Description

University of Maryland, Baltimore
Chief Development Officer
Baltimore, MD

The University of Maryland, Baltimore is the state's public academic health and law university devoted to professional and graduate education, research, patient care, and public service. Comprised of seven professional schools in dentistry, law, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, social work and public health, and an interdisciplinary graduate school, the university serves as a vibrant hub for technological and biomedical advances, social services, legal education and economic development.

This is a very exciting time in UMB's history. The beneficiary of tremendous goodwill and visibility, the university recently embarked on an ambitious $650 million campaign to continue its remarkable growth, foster innovation and seize new opportunities. Central to the success of this campaign will be the recruitment of a seasoned and dynamic Chief Development Officer (CDO).

Working closely with UMB's executive and volunteer leadership, including President David Ramsay, the CDO will center the institution around the development priorities needed to satisfy a broad set of critical fundraising objectives, including those core messages and strategies designed to promote a clearer sense of the collective purpose of UMB as a whole, and the success and vitality of its constituent parts. Key to the success of this effort will be the chief development officer's ability to build effective alliances within the central administration, as well as across the university's extended leadership.

The successful candidate will possess the leadership skills and requisite development experience to nurture trust; inspire professionals and volunteers to new achievements; and integrate and leverage resources. S/he will bring innovative thinking, collaborative strategies, and proven managerial and fundraising skills gained in a comparable institution(s). A bachelor's degree and either an advanced degree or the equivalent combination of training and experience are required.

Recruitment will continue until the position is filled. Nominations, expressions of interest, requests for the complete position specification, and applications (including a cover letter and resume) should be submitted via email to CDO-UMB@wittkieffer.com. Material that cannot be emailed may be sent to:
