Vice President for Business and Finance

Washington & Jefferson College is seeking a seasoned and strategic leader to become the vice president of business and finance. Reporting to the president and a key member of the senior administrative team, the vice president serves as the chief financial officer and steward of the college's physical and financial resources. Overseeing the college's endowment of $104 million and an annual operating budget of $46 million, the vice president is responsible for the business office, budget and accounting, financial management, physical plant, human resources, information technology services, conferences and events, the bookstore and food services.
W&J has recently undergone a profound transformation and is clearly on a positive trajectory with increased applications, rising student academic profiles, strong new faculty hires, successful development efforts and a rising national reputation. The college's 51-acre campus comprises 43 academic, recreational and residential buildings. In the past five years, W&J has invested over $50 million in capital expenditures to enhance its facilities, including two state-of-the-art academic buildings and apartment style residences.
Founded in 1781 and located 30 miles south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Washington & Jefferson College is one of the nation's oldest and most distinguished independent, residential, national liberal arts colleges. W&J enrolls 1,500 students from 34 states and 11 countries. The faculty, with over 100 full-time members in 19 academic departments, is strongly committed to educating men and women of uncommon integrity, competence, and maturity who are effective lifelong learners and responsible citizens.
The ideal candidate will have a broad portfolio of leadership accomplishments in a similar organizational setting, demonstrated financial and management skills, an enthusiastic, transparent and team-based management style, and an entrepreneurial spirit coupled with an understanding of and commitment to liberal arts education. An MBA, CPA or other relevant advanced degree is preferred.
