The Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences was created in 1974 by the merger of the college of pharmacy (originally founded in 1924) with several health sciences programs from the school of medicine. The college is home to 26 degree and certificate programs offered by four academic departments: health care sciences, fundamental and applied sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, and pharmacy practice. Total enrollment at all levels in the college was 927 students in Fall 2007; 60 percent are in the health sciences programs and 40 percent are in the pharmacy programs.

The new $64 million college facility opened May 2002, featuring 270,000 square feet of learning and research space. It is designed to accept new technology as quickly as it is discovered. Smart classrooms, the CVS/pharmacy Professional Practice Laboratory, distance learning classrooms, the Ford Motor Company Environmental Exposure Laboratory, and an exceptional learning resource center are just some of the features of this outstanding facility.

The dean serves as the chief executive officer of the college and reports directly to the provost and vice president for academic affairs of the university.
