Job Description
Thiel College
President
Greenville, PA
Thiel College invites inquiries, nominations and applications for the position of President. Thiel is a private residential college currently enrolling 1,200 students and committed to the liberal arts, sciences and professional studies. It is located on a beautiful, 135-acre campus in the heart of western Pennsylvania's hill country. The college is related to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and reflects Lutheran commitments to intellectual inquiry and academic freedom.
The college is ready to build on its strong heritage. The new President will embrace Thiel's academic excellence, lead the effort to position the college as a distinctive learning environment, secure its financial future through growth of enrollment and endowment, continue to build a strong, engaged Board of Trustees, and raise Thiel's profile as a small college of regional and national distinction. Thiel College is seeking a thoughtful and experienced leader who will affirm the college's heritage and values but who will ultimately be successful in transforming Thiel's identity and culture in the interest of ensuring its long term success.
In addition to a strong appreciation for the academic foundation of an institution of higher learning, the President will bring proven administrative and business skills, particularly in enrollment management, financial planning, marketing, and fundraising. Candidates should have a commitment to the liberal arts and to professional studies integrated with the liberal arts, and ideally have a history of successful leadership within an institution of higher education or a comparably complex organization. The expectations for progress will be high, new ideas will be encouraged, and the President must carry out a leadership agenda with an approach based on mutual respect, trust, collaboration, and a shared commitment to Thiel's success.
Nominations, expressions of interest, and applications (including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information for five references) should be submitted electronically to ThielPresident@wittkieffer.com. Recruitment will continue until the position is filled, with a target start date for the new president of July 1, 2009. Applications received prior to December 15, 2008 will receive the fullest consideration.
