Job Description

Elms College
President
Chicopee, MA

The Board of Trustees of the College of Our Lady of the Elms (Elms College) invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of President. This position will be filled on or before July 1, 2009.

Elms College is at an exciting moment in its history, with growing momentum resulting from increasing student enrollment, program development and community partnerships. Located in Chicopee, just north of Springfield in beautiful western Massachusetts, Elms College is a four-year, Catholic, coeducational liberal arts college founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1928.

Founded on a commitment to the service of others, Elms enrolls approximately 800 full-time and 360 part-time undergraduate and graduate students. The College has a dedicated faculty of 61 who, affirming the original mission of the College, educates students both for life and a career. Elms College is dedicated to the development of students rooted in faith, educated in mind, compassionate in heart, responsive to civic and social obligations and capable of adjusting to change without compromising principle. The College provides an atmosphere in which students can grow in scholarship, leadership, caring and commitment. The College seeks to maintain a low student-to-faculty ratio to promote interaction because each student is recognized as an individual.

The next president of the Elms should possess the energy and imagination that will take the College to the next level: to be recognized as one of the finest Catholic colleges in the northeast. He or she must have the ability - and the passion - to articulate persuasively the importance and value of a Catholic liberal arts education, a decision making style that is collaborative while ultimately decisive, a deep enthusiasm for engaging in all aspects of institutional marketing and development, astute judgments relating to financial management and strategic planning, and an ability to lead with the utmost integrity in both word and deed.

Elms College's next president will bring significant leadership, management and proven fund raising success, lending vision, strategic planning, and an entrepreneurial spirit to garnering support from both traditional and nontraditional sources, and working closely with various constituencies to identify, cultivate, and establish long term philanthropic relationships.

Nominations, expressions of interest, and applications (including a cover letter and resume) should be submitted electronically to the College's consultants, Robin Mamlet, Jean Dowdall and Elizabeth Bohan, at ElmsPres@wittkieffer.com. All applications and expressions of interest will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. Confidential inquiries and questions concerning this search may be directed to the College's consultants at 630/575-6178.
