The Oregon Health & Science University Foundation (OHSUF), representing one of the top 25 academic health centers in the country, seeks a passionate, seasoned and proven fundraising leader to serve as its next President. Reporting to the Chair of the OHSUF Board of Trustees, the new President will work very closely with the University President; clinical, research and administrative leaders; and Foundation Board members, donors, prospects and Foundation staff. The President of the Foundation will be responsible for continued momentum in fundraising results, which should exceed last year's total of $66 million. The Foundation hopes to increase that total to $100M over the next 5 to 7 years.
The OHSUF President will be the chief fundraising officer for OHSU, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding the University's top principal gift prospects and donors in close partnership with the President, Foundation Board members, Deans of the Schools, Institute and Center Directors, and faculty. He or she will have a strong interest in scientific and medical research and a demonstrated ability to communicate complex science in a compelling manner to lay people. The Foundation President, working in close partnership with the University President and Chair of the Foundation Board will develop the vision and strategies to ensure maximizing the fundraising potential of Oregon Health & Science University.
The new Foundation President will work collaboratively and closely with clinical and research leadership and faculty in improving their abilities to and enthusiasm for working with patients and their families who are philanthropically inclined. In addition, the President will be the primary liaison to the executive committee of the Foundation's Board of Trustees and will be responsible for ongoing Board development and for galvanizing new support and engagement from the entire Board.
The Foundation President will provide oversight of OHSUF business operations, including investment management, budget and costs, and will serve as the chief philanthropic advisor to the University President and his executive leadership team. In all of these matters, the new President will be able to rely on a talented and respected chief operating officer, allowing him or her to maximize time spent building relationships both within the University and with donors and prospects. He/she will provide leadership and mentorship for a growing Foundation staff, currently numbering 86 and an annual budget of $12.5 million. The new Foundation President will oversee the further development and refinement of systems that will provide the optimal development infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a history as a strong collaborator and will actively serve as a collaborative force between the Foundation and the University.
Located in Portland, Oregon, one of Money Magazine's "Top 10 Best Places to Live," this position affords the opportunity to have a powerful and formative impact on the future of Oregon's only academic health center. In fall 2007, OHSU adopted a dynamic strategic plan, Vision 2020. The University is partnering with the Foundation to implement this transformative plan. Preliminary conversation is underway for the next comprehensive campaign for OHSU to help fulfill Vision 2020's strategic goals. The Foundation President, working closely with the University President and Foundation Board, will play a leadership role in setting the strategic course for the upcoming fundraising campaign.
