Job Description
Bowling Green State University
President
Bowling Green, OH
Bowling Green State University (BGSU), founded in 1910, is seeking a new president to help celebrate its 100-year legacy of excellence and to lead the institution towards its future without limits. This individual will succeed Dr. Sidney Ribeau, who made significant contributions to BGSU in his 13-year tenure and who was recently appointed as the new president of Howard University. Dr. Carol Cartwright, President Emeritus of Kent State University, has provided outstanding leadership as interim president since Dr. Ribeau's departure.
Located in northwestern Ohio, BGSU is a major institution of higher learning, serving over 20,000 students on two campuses. Over 900 faculty and 1,400 staff members support a rich academic and extracurricular life, where students can draw from over 200 undergraduate majors, 17 doctoral programs, 53 masters degrees, and over 320 campus organizations. BGSU is one of Ohio's premier public institutions, and prides itself on providing major university opportunities in an education environment that feels "small and connected", much like that of a small college community.
BGSU is seeking an experienced, student-centered, academic leader with the vision, leadership, and management qualities necessary to build on the institution's reputation and take it to even higher levels of academic excellence and student success. The new president will express a passion for the mission of public education and understand the important social and economic roles that the university plays in the region and state. The ability to articulate BGSU's values and to celebrate its centers of excellence will serve the president well as an advocate for the university at the state level and as a fundraiser with the university's many and broadly based constituents.
This leader will play a key role in more precisely defining BGSU's unique identity, and will have the depth of management experience required to construct and execute strategies to ensure its future successes. The president will devote particular attention to the immediate goals of: upgrading BGSU's infrastructure of facilities, processes, and planning; developing and implementing plans to achieve sustainable enrollment growth; building key internal and external relationships; and infusing enthusiasm and excitement across its campuses.
Nominations, expressions of interest, and applications are invited. Interested individuals should provide a letter describing their interest in and qualifications for the position, a current curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of five references. This material should be sent via email (Microsoft Word attachments are preferred) to Bowling Green State University's consultants, John K. Thornburgh, Jean A. Dowdall, Ph.D., and Mercedes Vance, at BGSUPresident@wittkieffer.com.
