Vice President for Health Sciences Center Development

The University of New Mexico Foundation (UNMF) seeks an accomplished leader to serve as the Vice President for Health Sciences Center Development (VPHSCD). The VPHSCD will be expected to greatly expand the gift revenue base and broadly promote the institution. The new Vice President will oversee a full service development office, including a staff of 23. The budget and staffing for HSC Development have grown substantially over the last few years. This is an opportunity for an exceptional leader to shape these increased assets and talents into an integrated, best practices health sciences fundraising program.
The University of New Mexico (UNM) represents a wide cross-section of cultures and backgrounds. The campuses of UNM serve more than 32,000 students; employ 3,200 faculty, and 7,000 staff (an additional 4,400 staff work at University Hospital). UNM has a total operating and capital budget of about $1.8 billion. UNM has more than 141,000 alumni, represented in every state, several U.S. territories and in more than 90 countries.
The University of New Mexico Foundation raises private support and invests endowed gift funds on behalf of the University. The UNM Foundation is looking for an exceptional development leader in health sciences philanthropy to join their senior leadership team in preparation for the University's largest-ever comprehensive campaign.
The VPHSCD will direct the day-to-day development activities of the UNM Health Sciences Center's (HSC) academic and clinical components; integrate individual HSC unit fundraising activities into a cohesive Health Sciences development program; develop strategies for the acquisition of major donors, and serve as the chief fundraiser and development advisor to the HSC. The candidate will report to the UNM Foundation's Senior Vice President, with consultation and shared oversight provided by the University's Executive Vice President for Health Sciences.
The ideal candidate will be a high performing, creative leader who adds value to a top-tier research university. This person will have a broad portfolio of fund-raising and leadership achievements, at least ten years of progressive experience, including health sciences philanthropy and campaign experience. He/she will be a results-oriented leader, a strategic decision-maker, and a respected collaborator. An ambitious, high energy, experienced professional will see this as a challenge and an opportunity. A master's degree is preferred.
