Job Description

Scripps College
Vice President for Development and Alumnae Relations
Claremont, CA

Scripps College seeks an experienced and talented advancement professional to serve as its vice president for development and alumnae relations. Reporting to newly-appointed President Lori Bettison-Varga and working closely with leadership at the administrative, faculty, and board level, the vice president will lead Scripps' fund-raising and constituent engagement efforts, plan and execute its next comprehensive campaign, and continue to build on an already-strong and well-integrated development and alumnae relations operation in support of the overarching goal of Scripps College: to become the premier women's college in the United States.

By all measures - student academic scores and achievement, faculty teaching and scholarship, quality of the campus, financial resources, and alumnae support - Scripps is among the very best colleges in the nation. Scripps benefits from its membership in The Claremont Colleges Consortium, making available the extraordinary resources of its adjacent five undergraduate and two graduate institutions. With the intimacy and rigor of a liberal arts college and the intellectual diversity of a university, Scripps is singularly positioned to build upon its legacy of a superior pedagogical experience for undergraduate women. Because Scripps is located within the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, its students and faculty are able to explore new challenges within the context of a broader urban and global community. The College's motto is Incipit Vita Nova - here begins new life.

The vice president for development and alumnae relations will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to this outstanding institution by leading it to new levels of engagement with its external constituencies and even greater achievement in fund raising. Doing so will require the skills and experiences of a seasoned advancement leader and manager, one with a significant track record of personal and successful involvement in individual major and principal giving, and experience in leading a team of skilled fund raisers and alumnae relations professionals. Demonstrated success with leadership experience within a comprehensive campaign is critical, as is a deep and abiding commitment to both the liberal arts and to women's education. A bachelor's degree is required and an advanced degree is preferred.

This is the ideal time for new and inspiring leadership at Scripps - with the advent of a new presidency; an exciting new strategic plan in place; a committed board and loyal and passionate alumnae; and the promise of a high profile campaign on the horizon. The new vice president will be optimally positioned for success both personally and on behalf of this outstanding institution.

Recruitment will continue until the position is filled.

Nominations, expressions of interest, and applications (including a cover letter and resume) should be submitted via email to ScrippsVP@wittkieffer.com. Material that cannot be sent electronically may be sent to:
