Job Description

Indiana University Northwest
Chancellor
Gary, IN

Indiana University Northwest is one of eight regional campuses of Indiana University. Located in Gary, Indiana and serving a seven-county region in the northwest corner of the state, adjacent to the City of Chicago and a part of its large metropolitan region, the campus serves one of the most diverse populations of any institution in the Midwest. IU Northwest is a teaching institution within one of the nation's most famous and successful public research universities. With its singular combination of institutional pedigree and locus in a community undergoing a difficult, long-term transition in its core economy, IU Northwest is situated to play a critical role in the lives of its individual students and their communities as a whole.

To lead this effort at this critical moment in its history, Indiana University Northwest seeks a chancellor. Reporting to the President of Indiana University and working in close concert with leadership at the local, regional, state, and even national level, the Chancellor of Indiana University Northwest will have the opportunity to make a personal and lasting mark on the future of the university and the publics it serves.

To succeed at this critical task, the chancellor must be an experienced and successful leader within a complex organizational setting. He or she must be committed to the central mission of the university, especially teaching, research, and service to the university and the region. Comfort with a campus that serves commuting students, many of them adult learners, in an urban setting is essential. Critical are the qualities of leadership necessary to extend the reach of the institution and to have an impact on the communities it serves - exceptional communications skills, a commitment to building strong and mutually-beneficial interpersonal relationships, outstanding managerial skills and experience, and a deep and abiding commitment to a student-centric approach to higher education. An earned terminal degree and a track record of teaching and research commensurate with an appointment as full professor with tenure are highly desirable.

IU Northwest's next chancellor will inherit an institution that has made tremendous strides over the past decade and yet faces significant challenges as it attempts to play a leading role in the metamorphosis of an entire region. The leader with the right combination of enthusiasm, credentials, experience, energy, and collaborative interpersonal style will have an historic opportunity to have an impact not only on the campus and the entire university, but on the City of Gary and the entire region.

Recruitment will continue until the position is filled.

Nominations, expressions of interest, and applications (including a cover letter and resume) should be submitted via email to IUNorthwestChancellor@wittkieffer.com. Material that cannot be sent electronically may be sent to:
