Job Description

Indiana University Kokomo
Chancellor
Kokomo, IN

Indiana University Kokomo, one of eight regional Indiana University campuses, seeks a dynamic and entrepreneurial new chancellor to lead the university in the next phase of its development as a baccalaureate and graduate university. Serving 10 counties in central Indiana, IU Kokomo, as an academic unit within one of the nation's most prestigious and successful public research universities, takes great pride in the quality of its academic programs, teaching innovations and faculty scholarship. In the fall 2009, IU Kokomo's first-time entering students had the highest average SAT scores and the highest percentage of students ranked in the top 50% of their high school class of all the regional Indiana University campuses. IU Kokomo boasts a distinguished nursing program, an AACSB accredited business program, an outstanding NCATE accredited program in teacher education, an outstanding faculty, and a committed staff and administration.

IU Kokomo seeks a chancellor who will lead the university in defining and distinguishing itself within Indiana University and in fulfilling its mission to serve—and to be a leader in the educational, economic and cultural development of the north central Indiana region. The realignment of missions of the public institutions of higher education in Indiana creates a unique opportunity for IU Kokomo to further develop as a graduate institution and extend its baccalaureate programs, and to do so in collaboration with Ivy Tech Community College, whose role is also changing. The chancellor will lead IU Kokomo in the important task of continuing to refine its mission, identifying its distinctive niche and role within the region, and forge new partnerships with educational institutions and other organizations in the region.

IU Kokomo will look to the new chancellor to become an integral part of the fabric of a close-knit north central Indiana community--a manufacturing and rural region. The next chancellor will, through substantive outreach and collaboration, lead IU Kokomo in playing a major role in economic development and cultural enrichment of the region as it educates the next generation of north central Indiana students. Reporting to the President of Indiana University and working in close concert with leadership at the local, regional, state, and national level, the Chancellor of Indiana University Kokomo will have the opportunity to make a personal and lasting mark on the future of the university and the region it serves.

IU Kokomo's next chancellor will possess the qualities of leadership necessary to extend the reach of the institution and to have an impact on communities it serves - exceptional communications skills, a commitment to building strong and mutually beneficial interpersonal relationships, outstanding managerial skills and experience, an unquestioned integrity and credibility, and a deep and abiding commitment to a student-centric approach to higher education. He or she will have a strong strategic vision and a commitment to shared governance. An earned terminal degree and a track record of teaching and research commensurate with an appointment as full professor with tenure are required. Recruitment will continue until the position is filled.

Nominations, expressions of interest, and applications (including a cover letter and resume) should be submitted via email to IUKokomoChancellor@wittkieffer.com. Material that cannot be sent electronically may be sent to:
