Job Description

The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey
Provost and Executive Vice President
Pomona, NJ

The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, an innovative, residential, public liberal arts and sciences college in southern New Jersey near Atlantic City and the Jersey shore, is seeking a Provost and Executive Vice President. A thriving institution recognized for excellence by U.S. News and World Report and The Princeton Review, Stockton is currently ranked 10th among top public institutions. Its small classes and focus on personal attention and close interactions between faculty and students are hallmarks of the College's campus culture and community. The new Provost will be the successor to Dr. David L. Carr, who has served the institution with distinction for over 11 years.

Reporting directly to the President, the Provost and Executive Vice President is the chief academic officer of the College, responsible for providing vision, leadership and strategic planning for the institution's academic programs. The Provost serves as the first among equals in the President's Executive Staff, serving as the Acting President in the President's absence. The Provost will strive to achieve and maintain the highest standards of excellence for faculty, students and academic programs and, along with the President, will represent Stockton to its many external constituencies, particularly in regard to alumni relations and fundraising.

The successful candidate will possess the ability to provide dynamic leadership and academic vision, personal integrity and trustworthiness, and the ability to build effective relationships of mutual respect in a collective bargaining environment, to think strategically, and to envision possibilities that promote the development of new academic opportunities in both disciplinary and interdisciplinary areas. The next Provost must have a demonstrated record of success in building programs, recruiting faculty, promoting teaching and scholarship, and translating strategic program goals into successful operating plans with realistic and well-managed budgets. A demonstrated commitment to building a diverse and inclusive campus community is essential.

Stockton College enrolls more than 6,800 undergraduate students (of whom approximately 37 percent live on campus) and about 750 graduate students. Selectivity is increasing; scholarship recipients are increasingly also applying to selective private institutions like Lehigh, Lafayette, Villanova and Bucknell. There are 264 full-time faculty, (of whom 92 percent hold the terminal degree in their field), and 214 part-time faculty at the College. Known as "New Jersey's Green College", Stockton is an environmentally conscious campus of over 1,600 acres tucked inside the natural beauty of the Pinelands National Reserve. The campus is an easy drive to Philadelphia, Atlantic City, and New York City's abundant opportunities for intellectual, cultural, and recreational activities these cities have to offer.
