Job Description

Clarion University
President
Clarion, PA

Clarion University - one of the 14 members of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) - invites applications and nominations for the position of President. Clarion University is a high-achieving, nationally recognized, comprehensive university that delivers a personal and challenging academic experience.

Located in the beautiful rural region of northwestern Pennsylvania, Clarion offers its 7,300 students over 90 degree programs, including 27 nationally accredited programs, which is the most in the Pennsylvania system. Fifteen graduate programs are also offered. There are eighteen degree and certificate programs available fully online. The university has two campuses - its 128-acre main campus and its Venango campus in Oil City. Clarion serves diverse, motivated undergraduate and graduate students who want to learn and grow in a small, safe, and supportive environment that promotes exploration and discovery.

After seven years of outstanding leadership, President Joseph P. Grunenwald will be retiring at the end of the 2009-2010 academic year. The university is seeking an experienced academic leader with the vision and leadership qualities to build on the institution's reputation and take it to even higher levels of academic excellence and student success. The exceptionally qualified and committed faculty and staff are proud of their institution's accomplishments, providing students with outstanding academic and life experiences.

The new president will express a passion for the mission of public education and understand the important social and economic roles it plays in the Clarion region and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The ability to articulate the institution's values will serve the president well as an advocate for the university at the state level and as a fundraiser with the university's many and broadly based constituents. Clarion's next president will be a dynamic and visionary leader who brings outstanding administrative skills. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to lead effectively within a shared governance environment, appreciate the unique characteristics of public higher education, and bring experience as a successful fundraiser.

Nominations, expressions of interest, and applications are invited. Interested individuals should provide a letter describing their interest in and qualifications for the position, a current curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of five references. This material should be sent electronically to Clarion University's consultants, John K. Thornburgh and Jon Derek Croteau, Ed. D. at ClarionPresident@wittkieffer.com.

Clarion University is building a diverse academic community and encourages people of color, women, veterans, and persons with disabilities to apply. AA/EOE.
