Anna Wharton Phillips


Anna Phillips, Of Counsel Advisor and former chair, has been a strategic advisor to boards of trustees and search committees throughout her 30-year career in healthcare and not-for-profit executive search. A recognized leader in the field, Anna counsels boards and senior executives on building visionary leadership teams for their organizations.

During the course of her career, Anna has conducted more than 120 searches for healthcare and not-for-profit presidents and CEOs. Her consultative role in identifying and selecting senior executives and physician leaders has long been the hallmark of her executive search practice.

Anna advises boards and search committees at community hospitals and health systems, health sciences and academic medical centers, associations and other not-for-profit organizations. She relies on her national network of contacts to find leaders whose experience and expertise match an organization’s mission, vision, values and strategy.

Since joining Witt/Kieffer in 1988, Anna has been integral to the growth of the firm including the development of specialized practices in academic medicine, faith-based health care and community service. She has served in a variety of firm leadership roles, has mentored a number of consultants now in the firm’s leadership ranks.

With a background in community-based healthcare, Anna previously served as CEO of the Women’s Medical Center, in Washington, D.C. and as executive director of the Washington Free Clinic. She serves on the board of directors of a community hospital and volunteers for a variety of healthcare and social service organizations.
