The Department of Neurology includes nine accomplished and well-established physicians with clinical and research interests in various areas, such as stroke, neuromuscular disorders, multiple sclerosis, headache, and dementia. The department enjoys Stroke Center designation, robust clinical activity, and basic laboratories focusing on neurodegenerative disorders. The incumbent will be expected to enhance an already growing department, as well as strengthen relationships within the system, and with other referral sources. The Chair will facilitate and be supportive of clinical and basic research as appropriate. As Academic Vice Chair, the individual will maintain close connection to Tufts University School of Medicine and actively participate in the academic affairs in Neurology of other Tufts-affiliated institutions. St. Elizabeth's is a main site for the Tufts Neurology residency program.
The Chair of Neurology will oversee the provision of neurology services. He/she will also lead the Department in the recruitment of physicians and other clinical professionals, collaborate with other clinical leaders and administrators at the medical center in defining, developing and implementing strategy, goals and objectives for neuroscience programs, and serve as a resource for medical staff, clinicians, and the community regarding neurology practice and the provision of care.
Candidates will need to have a distinguished track record of clinical and professional accomplishments in the neurosciences field and be eligible for an academic appointment at the Professor level at Tufts University School of Medicine. He or she should be a persuasive communicator with strong interpersonal skills, and the ability and passion to lead the Department.
