Hays Medical Center, located midway between Kansas City and Denver, is the sole tertiary care service provider in western Kansas. It is in pursuit of this goal that Hays partnered with Michael DeBakey, MD to open the DeBakey Heart Institute of Kansas in 1989.

Hays Medical Center serves both local area and university populations totaling over 28,000 and the specialty needs of more than 165,000 Kansans. Hays Medical Center is the supporting hospital for twenty-two small, rural Critical Access Hospitals, serving as hub for the largest such network in the nation.

Focus of this position will be to drive clinical excellence and superior quality through organized performance improvement initiatives. In addition, implementing the new hospitalists program, creating efficiencies in contracted physician groups, assisting with the evolving electronic medical records initiative and working towards Level III trauma certification are all exciting projects in the portfolio of responsibilities for the CMO role. As part of the executive management team, the CMO will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer of Hays, also a physician, Dr. John Jeter.

Candidates should be BC physician executives skilled in program development and relationship building. Recent medical practice experience in a hospital-based practice or employed physician group practice is desired. Additional training or education in business or management is an added plus.
