Job Description

Health Alliance Planning, Inc.
Chief Executive Officer
Kingston, NY

Health Alliance Planning, Inc. is the newly formed parent organization of Benedictine Hospital and The Kingston Hospital and its affiliates. Health Alliance Planning, Inc. was established in late 2007 to comply with the mandates of The New York State Commission on Health Care Facilities in the 21st Century (known as the Berger Commission). The goal of the affiliation is to strengthen the quality of care and financial stability of the two hospitals and the quality of care provided to Kingston and Ulster County, New York. These organizations combine for approximately 380 licensed beds and net revenue of $160 million.

The affiliate organizations will operate under the leadership of the Health Alliance Planning, Inc. board and the Chief Executive Officer of Health Alliance Planning, Inc.

Under the terms of the Master Alignment Agreement, The Kingston Hospital and its affiliates and Benedictine Hospital, will continue as separate and distinct corporations, each with its own board of directors and corporate mission. The Kingston Hospital and its affiliates will continue to be a non-sectarian organization. Benedictine Hospital will continue to be a Catholic hospital sponsored by the Benedictine Sisters. This organizational structure was forged to ensure the sustenance of each organization's rich tradition and deeply held values. However, this unique (arguably groundbreaking) structure carries with it unique leadership requirements.

The Chief Executive Officer for Health Alliance Planning, Inc. must be, at a minimum, technically skilled - capable of meeting the financial, strategic and operational requirements of leading a 21st century health care facility in a challenging operating environment. However, in light of the unique circumstances and characteristics of this affiliation, this leader must also be able to bring to bear relationship skills of the highest order. Most critical will be relationships with physicians, physician leaders, and community leaders. Leaders whose experience includes success with other mergers or affiliations will receive the highest consideration. This is an incredibly exciting leadership opportunity. Success will be measured by the ability to forge a common vision and direction for health care in Kingston, Ulster County and the Hudson Valley.

Witt/Kieffer, an executive search firm specializing in healthcare and higher education, is assisting the Health Alliance Planning, Inc. search committee in building an exceptional pool of candidates for the position. Any suggestions or questions you may have will be treated confidentially and are greatly appreciated. Please contact Jeffrey Frerichs or Kimberly Smith (email preferred) at healthalliance@wittkieffer.com; Witt/Kieffer, 780 Third Avenue, 38th Floor, New York, NY 10017; (212) 686-2676.
