The Medical College of Georgia seeks an innovative and dynamic academic leader for the position of Chair, Department of Pediatrics.
The Medical College of Georgia (MCG), Georgia's Health Sciences University, consists of five health professional schools: Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Allied Health Sciences and Graduate Studies. The School of Medicine, Georgia's only public medical school, is actively engaged in expanding medical education to address the state's need for more physicians. Clinical affiliation is with MCGHealth which includes the 478-bed MCGHealth Medical Center and the 154-bed MCGHealth Children's Medical Center.
The Department of Pediatrics, which includes over 70 faculty in 13 pediatric sub-specialties, has been a leader in educational excellence within the clinical departments of the School of Medicine. Clinical services are delivered at MCGHealth's Children's Medical Center as well as at 28 clinics in eight locations outside of Augusta. The Chair will provide leadership in integrating clinical, educational, and research programs to promote a strong academic department. Reporting to the Dean, School of Medicine, this Chair will establish a bold vision for leading the department to national prominence. The Chair will also hold the position of Pediatrician-in-Chief at Children's Medical Center.
Candidates for this position must be board certified in pediatrics. Ideally, candidates will currently hold the rank of professor; if at the associate professor level, must be at a level to qualify for appointment to professor at time of recruitment. The successful candidate must have proven experience as a leader who can inspire faculty and staff to work together to build an outstanding academic department. Candidates should possess a distinguished record of research, teaching and clinical care with national and international stature. It is also important that the candidate possess strong management skills, with ability to meet budgets, grow revenues, as well as interpersonal and communication abilities to work collaboratively with a broad range of constituents internally and externally. Experience in attracting and recruiting faculty is very important.
