Duke University Hospital (DUH), one of the premier academic hospitals in the nation, is the flagship of the Duke University Health System and the primary training site for the Duke University School of Medicine. A full-service tertiary and quaternary care hospital, DUH has over 8,000 employees and more than 1,200 physicians with admitting privileges. DUH is licensed for 924 acute care beds and 19 psychiatry beds and houses comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities including a regional emergency/trauma center, a major surgery suite with dedicated open-heart operating rooms and an extensive diagnostic radiology area.

The Department of Pharmacy, DUH, provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients through a staff of over 200 pharmacists and technicians. A comprehensive drug information center complements the other facets of pharmacy services. The outpatient pharmacies include a retail pharmacy, an outpatient oncology pharmacy, and a pharmacy that services the adult bone marrow transplant program and ambulatory surgery center. The Chief Pharmacy Officer is responsible for the operations of pharmacy services, both inpatient and outpatient, including strategic planning, day to day operations, pharmaceutical care, as well as clinical and distributive services. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, DUH, the Chief Pharmacy Officer will define a vision for pharmaceutical services that supports the vision and mission of DUH.

The successful candidate will have at least five years of senior management experience gained within the pharmacy department of an academic medical center or large, complex teaching hospital. Candidates must have strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as a strong customer service orientation. An advanced degree in pharmacy is required.
