Carolinas Healthcare System - NorthEast
Chief Medical Officer
Charlotte, NC

Carolinas Health System (CHS), the largest healthcare system in the Carolinas and one of the largest not-for-profit systems in the nation, is seeking applications and nominations for a regional Chief Medical Officer position located in an attractive suburban environment just outside of Charlotte, NC. CHS, headquartered in Charlotte, NC, owns, leases, or manages 23 hospitals in North and South Carolina and employs over 1,000 physicians and 35,000 full or part time employees.

CMC-NorthEast is a 457-bed medical center that has been named a Solucient's 100 Top Hospitals under the category of "Teaching Hospitals" for four years in a row. Health Grades has rated the organization "Best in the Region" for overall cardiac services, while simultaneously naming the medical center as "Best in the Region" for cardiac surgery over each of the past six years. CMC-NorthEast, in 2002, achieved "Magnet Hospital" status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. CMC-University, a 130 bed facility, is a JD Power Distinguished Hospital Program Award Recipient for the past two years.

The Chief Medical Officer will have responsibility over two facilities, CMC - NorthEast, one of their flagship facilities, and CMC-University. This is a newly created position and is part of the commitment that CHS has made to establish clinical leaders in all of their facilities. The Chief Medical Officer's primary reporting relationship is to the Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of the Carolinas Healthcare System with secondary reporting relationships to the Presidents of each facility. One of the Chief Medical Officer's prime responsibilities is to promote the implementation of the system initiatives related to patient safety and quality at these operating sites and to cultivate a sense of partnership and collaboration between the medical staff and the administrative team. The Chief Medical Officer is expected to contribute substantively to the development and implementation of strategic objectives for both campuses.

Successful candidates should possess a MD or DO degree and Board Certification in a clinical discipline. An advanced degree (MBA, MHA, etc.) is preferred. Experience as a CMO, Medical Director or Vice President, Medical Affairs in a health system environment is strongly needed. Excellent interpersonal skills and five years of clinical practice are also required.
