Job Description

Catholic Health East
Vice President, Medical Affairs
Newark, NJ

Catholic Health East, one of the nation's leading Catholic health systems, is seeking a Vice President/Medical Affairs (VP/MA) for its newly acquired St. Michael's Medical Center (SMMC) in Newark, New Jersey.

We are seeking a proven physician leader who will provide leadership in matters of quality patient care, effective clinical resource management, continuous performance and quality improvement, and medical staff activities. As a key member of the SMMC senior management team, this physician executive will establish priorities for performance improvement and help achieve tangible results that enhance patient outcomes and safety, as well as hospital efficiency and operations. The acquisition by CHE resulted in the closure and consolidation of acute care services at two smaller Newark based facilities into SMMC. As a result, this physician executive will play an instrumental role in leading the organization in the continuing integration of three distinct medical staff cultures into one. The VP/MA will lead and live the clinical changes "on the ground" on a daily basis. The VP/MA will also drive the development of quality programs and reporting and oversee GME programs.

The successful candidate will be a board certified physician with demonstrated success in a management or leadership role in an acute care hospital setting, as well as experience in healthcare quality, resource management and outcomes improvement. Prior senior management experience as Vice President/Medical Affairs or equivalent is strongly preferred. Leadership experience in graduate medical education, program development, and information technology are needed. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to forge effective relationships with physicians as well as with other members of the management team and staff.
