St. Michael's Medical Center (SMMC) is a 357-bed regional tertiary care facility in the heart of Newark, New Jersey's vibrant business and arts district which has long enjoyed a reputation as a premier teaching and research institution providing top-quality health care services delivered with compassionate Care. The hospital recently joined Catholic Health East, one of the nation's leading Catholic health systems located within 11 eastern states from Maine to Florida.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CNO will provide overall nursing leadership, including the development and implementation of methods to maintain and improve the quality of patient care. The CNO will direct the day-to-day administration of the nursing department, actively contributing in meeting the needs of SMMC's patients and medical staff, and developing a nursing structure and culture which is empowered and quality oriented. The CNO will work to facilitate the recent consolidation of the three facilities into one integrated nursing division and will be seen as an advocate for and a bridge between both nursing and administration during this transition and will be responsible for developing conceptual designs for clinical services.

The successful CNO candidate will be a nursing executive who is a strong, team-oriented leader and who will drive nursing to the next level of patient care while providing a venue for learning and professional development. Candidates will have a minimum of ten years of nursing experience including at least five years in senior leadership, preferably in a complex, urban environment. A Master's degree in Nursing or related field is required, along with a current RN licensure. A willingness to accept and embrace the faith-based values of the hospital and to strive to make decisions with these values as a priority is a must for the successful candidate.
