The Medical College of Georgia seeks an innovative and dynamic academic leader for the position of Chair, Department of Pathology.
The Medical College of Georgia (MCG), Georgia's Health Sciences University, consists of five health professional schools: Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Allied Health Sciences and Graduate Studies. The School of Medicine, Georgia's only public medical school, is actively engaged in expanding medical education to address the state's need for more physicians. Clinical affiliation is with MCGHealth which includes the 478-bed MCGHealth Medical Center and the 154-bed MCGHealth Children's Medical Center.
The Department of Pathology currently has 12 faculty, including four PhDs; there are 12 residents and three fellows. Clinical services are provided primarily to MCGHealth. The Chair will provide leadership in integrating clinical, educational, and research programs to promote a strong academic department. Reporting to the Dean, School of Medicine, this Chair will establish a bold vision for leading the department to national prominence by building world class programs in basic and translational research, as well as for all clinical services and maintaining fully accredited, high-quality residency and fellowship programs.
The successful candidate for this position will hold an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D.; physicians must be board certified in anatomic and/or clinical pathology. Candidates must possess the academic credentials for appointment to the faculty of the Medical College of Georgia at the Professor level. The successful candidate will be an outstanding and respected academic leader with demonstrated ability to effectively manage, mentor and develop faculty and staff. Ideally, the candidate will have held major leadership positions, including in the Department or a Division of Pathology, with demonstrated management skills. Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of the importance of management, service, scholarship, and a patient-care driven culture to successfully lead an academic pathology department.
