Health Care Services Agency, County of Alameda
Director
Oakland, CA

Alameda County, located on the east side of San Francisco Bay, is California's sixth-largest county with a population of 1.5 million people. The East Bay is known for its diverse population, strong economic base, temperate climate, wide variety of attractive neighborhoods and housing choices, transportation system, universities, cultural attractions, parks, and sports teams.

The County of Alameda government employs almost 9,300 FTEs and has a $2.4 billion budget for FY 2009-2010. The mission of the Health Care Services Agency is to provide fully integrated health care services through a comprehensive network of public and private partnerships. The Agency has earned a state-wide reputation for its innovation and progressive and cutting edge approach to delivering health care services to its residents. The HCSA Director plays an extremely critical and highly visible role in the community, providing leadership for the departments of Behavioral Health Care Services, Public Health, Environmental Health, and County Indigent Care Services with overall management responsibility for an appropriations budget of $567 million and 1,300+ FTE's. The position reports to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors through the County Administrator.

The ideal candidate will have a combination of exceptional leadership as well as solid operational, financial, human relations, political, policy, legislative, and collaboration skills and experience gained in a complex organization such as a public agency, public managed care health plan, community health clinic, not-for-profit community based organization, hospital, healthcare foundation, etc. The new Director will be a dynamic, visionary, and politically astute executive who can develop creative and innovative approaches to the advancement of the public mission of HCSA. He/she will be an effective and open communicator who will earn the respect of the Board of Supervisors, County Administrator, Department Heads, and staff as well as a wide range of community stakeholders.
