An extraordinary opportunity has arisen for a leader in oncology to develop and execute the strategic vision for the clinical cancer program at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. Mount Sinai seeks a visionary leader as Associate Director for Clinical Affairs, Tisch Cancer Institute and Medical Director, Ruttenberg Treatment Center who will advance the clinical and clinical research programs and play a prominent role in the effort to receive NCI designation.
In its over 150 year history, Mount Sinai has evolved into a $2.4 billion leading tertiary-care center comprised of The Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai School of Medicine. The Mount Sinai Hospital, a teaching hospital with 1,171 beds is in the top twenty nationally in ten of sixteen ranked specialties, according to US News & World Report. The School of Medicine is now ranked 22nd nationally by US News & World Report's 2010 Ranking of Medical Schools. The School's research efforts last year attracted $297 million in external funding, including $242 million from NIH.
The Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai is emerging as an innovative leader in cancer care and research. Research activities are channeled over seven cancer categories: blood cell disorders; brain; breast; head and neck; liver; prostate and thoracic cancers. The Director, Dr. Steven Burakoff, came to Mount Sinai in 2007 with the goal of attaining designation as an NCI comprehensive cancer center as he had at New York University. Ambulatory cancer care is delivered at The Ruttenberg Cancer Center.
Candidates must be board certified in medical or surgical oncology and possess strong academic credentials commensurate with national prominence in the field. The successful candidate will be an outstanding clinician and respected academic leader with demonstrated ability to effectively inspire, manage, recruit and develop faculty and staff. The ideal candidate will have held a leadership position in oncology within a complex academic medical center and have an appreciation of matrix-style reporting relationships. Strong communication skills and the desire to foster programmatic growth and excellence are essential.
The Associate Director reports to the Director of the Tisch Cancer Institute and to the President of The Mount Sinai Hospital.
