Job Description

Friendship Retirement Community
Chief Executive Officer
Roanoke, VA

Friendship Retirement Community (FRC) in Roanoke, VA, is an 829-unit nonprofit rental model continuing care retirement community, one of the best managed, highest quality communities in the Commonwealth of Virginia, reporting $35 million in annual operating revenue in 2009. FRC is home to more than 1000 residents and is one of the largest retirement communities in Virginia, with 361 independent living units, 95 assisted living units, and the 373-skilled nursing bed FRC Healthcare and Rehab Center, the largest skilled nursing facility in Virginia. FRC is supported by an array of entrepreneurial companies including a highly successful institutional and retail pharmacy; a licensed, non-certified home care agency offering companion care services; and a growing outpatient therapy and wellness center. FRC is also home to a Fresenius Dialysis Center. FRC has close working relationships with the Carilion Clinic, a nationally-recognized nonprofit regional physician group practice and multi-hospital health system based in Roanoke, VA, and with Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem, VA, an affiliate of the HCA Virginia Health System. The working relationships with these organizations involve the provision of medical services and ongoing clinical and educational programs.

The Chief Executive Officer reports directly to the FRC Board. The CEO will provide leadership and vision in the development and implementation of a well-conceived long-range strategic plan for FRC, will ensure high occupancy at FRC by implementing a dynamic strategic marketing and ‘branding' campaign with aggressive advertising and outreach activities, and will ensure strong operational performance across the organization. This professional will lead efforts to strengthen and enhance FRC's continuum of care, and will establish a capital plan for the physical redevelopment of certain aspects of the FRC campus. This executive will evaluate FRC's cost and pricing structure and will expand FRC's spectrum of services to meet the growing needs of its current and future residents and clients.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong record of dynamic and effective leadership in senior living, continuing care retirement community management, aging services or a closely related field. This executive will possess excellent skills in strategic planning, marketing, branding and new business development; operations improvement and new revenue generation; as well as team leadership, resident relations, and collaborative working relations with a nonprofit board. The ideal candidate will be a high-energy consensus-builder and team-player with excellent people skills and communications ability. A Master's Degree is preferred.

Please send candidate nominations or expressions of personal interest to Kathleen Gillespie, Partner and Practice Leader, Senior Care, Home Care, Hospice & Community-Based Care Practice, Witt/Kieffer, ideally via cell: 630.215.9631 and/or via email: kathg@wittkieffer.com.
