Vice President, Chief Medical Information Officer
Charlotte, NC

Witt/Kieffer has been retained to identify and evaluate candidates for the Vice President, Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) of Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS) in Charlotte, North Carolina. CHS owns, leases or manages 32 hospitals in North and South Carolina.

CHS's flagship facility is Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) in Charlotte, an 874-bed hospital with a Level 1 trauma center, a research institute and a large number of specialty treatment units including heart, cancer, organ transplant, and behavioral health. CMC also serves as one of North Carolina's five Academic Medical Center Teaching Hospitals, providing residency training for over 240 physicians in 18 specialties. CMC is listed as a "Best Hospital" by U.S. News & World Report for urology, and has been designed 11 times as Charlotte's "Consumer's Choice Preferred Hospital" by the National Research Corporation. CHS employs over 1,500 physicians who practice in more than 360 care location. CHS also operates rehabilitation hospitals, nursing homes, ambulatory surgery centers, home health agencies, radiation therapy centers and physical therapy facilities. Together, these operations comprise over 5,400 licensed beds and employ more than 40,000 full-time or part-time employees.

The Vice President, Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) provides clinical leadership in the selection, design, implementation, adoption and meaningful use of advanced clinical information systems that support strategic initiatives and clinical transformation of the Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS). The CMIO will serve as an advocate for patients, clinicians and CHS, in promoting the alignment of goals and the meaningful utilization of information technology in the clinical setting. The CMIO will be a clinical leader in the meaningful use of information systems that support strategic clinical initiatives.

The ideal CMIO candidate should have a strong knowledge of health industry direction and clinical information technology. He/she should understand the major trends in healthcare and is familiar with products and medical informatics trends and tools as well as having a strong knowledge of CHS clinical applications and information technology environments and human and capital resources. A licensed physician with a minimum of 5 years clinical experience and 3-5 years experience in clinical systems implementation and process re-design is required. Preference will be given those physicians with prior experience with medical informatics and administrative leadership.
