Witt/Kieffer has been retained by the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston, Massachusetts, to assist in the recruitment of an Executive Director of the Cancer Center. This executive has the opportunity to directly shape the vision and growth for oncology services as well as having operational oversight for the units and departments that comprise the Cancer Center.
BIDMC, a research partner of Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, is a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. Among independent teaching hospitals, BIDMC is the third-largest recipient of biomedical research funding from the National Institutes of Health. BIDMC is considered a national leader in multiple clinical and research areas, including cardiovascular, renal, liver, pancreas, gastric motility, infectious disease, women's health, diabetes, cancer and minimally invasive surgery. BIDMC's cancer program is the only program in Massachusetts, and one of only 34 in the country, to receive the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. The BIDMC Cancer Center, comprised of clinicians, researchers and administrators in Hematology Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Surgical and Musculoskeletal Oncology, Radiology, and Pathology, operates a number of well-established multidisciplinary care clinics in breast, prostate, thoracic, rectal, brain, kidney tumor, liver and cutaneous oncology as well as offering clinical trials. The medical center's information technology services are among the best in the nation, from the cutting-edge emergency room electronic dashboard to the integrated Web Online Medical Record. BIDMC is consistently ranked as one of the best hospitals in the US in by U.S. News & World Report.
The Executive Director reports to the EVP and Chief Operating Officer and will have a matrix reporting relationship with the Director of Clinical Care, will be the administrative lead for the Cancer Center Clinical Operations Committee chaired by the Director for Clinical Care, and will oversee the relevant administrative staff for all oncology-related services. This executive will play a pivotal role in managing key aspects of the Cancer Center, including program planning, strategy, patient satisfaction and operational performance. This position requires an individual who can effectively work with key members of physician and hospital leadership to develop and implement annual and long-term operational and financial goals in cancer services, and to manage the Cancer Center's operations. The position entails building and strengthening existing collaborations with both internal and external constituents as well as meeting goals for clinical growth and profitability of the service line. We seek candidates with at least seven to ten years of management experience gained within a clinically progressive academic medical center or health system that includes progressive administrative and operational oversight, preferably in cancer services. A clinical background is a plus and a master's degree is required.
