Cape Fear Valley Health System (CFVHS), a community, not-for-profit, five hospital system with 757 licensed beds, located in Fayetteville, North Carolina, seeks applications for the position of Chief Operations Officer (COO). With a medical staff of over 500 physicians of which 125 are employed physicians, and 4,528 employees, the Health System serves a county population of approximately 400,000 and a secondary service area of six counties in southeastern North Carolina. The Health System has a teaching relationship with Duke University and an affiliation agreement with the Cleveland Clinic to be the exclusive provider of cardiac surgery services. In 2007, the Health System was awarded from Health Grades the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence and Patient Safety, one of only 86 hospitals in the country to receive both distinctions.
As a key member of the senior management team reporting to the CEO, the COO is accountable for the strategic and operational leadership of the Health System. Translating the strategic vision of the organization into effective, measurable and successful operational realities to achieve the stated goals and objectives is paramount all the while maintaining the high standard of patient quality that the organization has achieved. The COO will also be responsible for providing new business development ideas and operational processes in order to achieve growth in the various service lines, such as orthopedics, cardiac, cancer, imaging, etc. The COO will be an integral contributor to Cape Fear's organizational and cultural transformation.
The ideal candidate must have a graduate degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or other appropriate advanced degree. A strong background addressing hospital operational issues and a minimum of ten years experience in a similar sized organization, especially in a large complex organization. A demonstrated track record of improving hospital operations in a competitive environment utilizing performance metrics to achieve positive outcomes in quality, cost, productivity and patient and employee satisfaction is required. An excellent reputation in leadership development and mentoring staff are an essential component of this role as are exceptional physician relations skills.
