The Ohio State University Medical Center is in the early stages of a $1 billion, 10-year facilities construction and expansion program, named ‘Project One,' the largest and most complex in the history of the University. The plan supports the growing demand for OSU Medical Center patient care, education and research services and will set a new standard for academic medical centers worldwide. The OSU Board of Trustees has approved funding to plan the construction of a new tower which incorporates expansions to the cancer hospital and critical care services, plus supporting structures and roadway redesign.

As of January 2010, the plan budget has been fully reviewed and approved by the Board, with HOK selected as the architect-of-record and bids pending for a contract management company, which will be an "at-risk" arrangement. As a result of an additional master campus review process, design changes have been made to better integrate the new facilities into both the existing campus and the surrounding communities. Schematic design is concluding and design development is anticipated to begin early February, 2010, lasting four months.

The plan involves coordination among several different University units including the Medical Center, Health System, James Cancer Hospital, the Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Office of Business and Finance - all of which report to different entities within the University.

Witt/Kieffer has been engaged by OSUMC to assist them in the recruitment for their Executive Director: The Ohio State University Medical Center Project Management Office. As with all projects of this magnitude, more than construction is involved. This requires close coordination with influential Board members, hospital, college and university operations and end-users, financial and strategic planning and the philanthropic community.

Qualified candidates will balance the ability to work "in the trenches" with the contract management team and an executive presence that puts them at ease in front of the Board and philanthropic community.
