Job Description

Monroe Carell, Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt
Chief Nursing Officer
Nashville, TN

Witt/Kieffer has been retained by Monroe Carell, Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt to assist them in their search for their next Chief Nursing Officer. The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) has the opportunity to join an organization that is well on its way to achieving the goal of becoming the leading children's hospital in the Southeast. Currently the most comprehensive children's hospital in the state, the organization is dedicated to meeting the unique health care needs of children, from newborns to young adults, by providing primary and sub-specialty services. Children's Hospital serves as a regional referral center and has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the nation's premier children's hospitals. The hospital is located within the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) enterprise, a comprehensive healthcare facility dedicated to patient care, research, and biomedical education. Its reputation for excellence in each of these areas has made Vanderbilt a major patient referral center for the Mid-South.

The next CNO will join a team that is focused on taking the hospital to the next level. Since opening the doors of the impressive and new freestanding hospital on the Vanderbilt health campus in 2004, the hospital has enjoyed steadily increasing volumes. The Vanderbilt system has also experienced tremendous growth over the last 10 years which has provided significant opportunity for expansion of services. This is an opportunity to join an organization with a stellar reputation for patient care and outstanding team of clinicians and administration all dedicated to the patient. VUMC received Magnet designation in 2006 and there is a strong history and commitment to excellence within nursing.

The CNO will serve as a key member of the senior management team and will serve as Chief Nurse Executive for all aspects of the Children's Hospital's main inpatient facility and satellite facilities and provide for nursing oversight, standards of practice and nursing leadership organization wide. The CNO will work in close partnership with the CEO at the Children's Hospital, as well as the Executive Chief Nursing Officer for VUMC.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate a strong passion for nursing and a strong background dedicated to children's services. We seek an astute operating executive who leads with personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility and integrity. Candidates will demonstrate a history of forming strong relationships and an ability to mentor and develop strong leaders to maximize their full potential. Candidates will be Master's prepared and experience in an academic and/or complex patient care setting is strongly desired.
