The University of Chicago invites nominations, inquiries, and applications for the position of Assistant Dean for Finance for the Biological Sciences Division.  The University of Chicago is seeking a strategic, financially astute, and highly accomplished leader to join one of the most progressive and prestigious academic institutions in the nation, within in the office of the Dean/Executive Vice President of Medical Affairs. 

The Assistant Dean acts as a business liaison with leadership on matters affecting the BSD and provides broad expertise to the greater University community on BSD finances and process.  Representing the BSD and interacting with all levels of management, the experienced finance executive in this role will have a rewarding opportunity to face the challenges and complexities of working in a world-class institution.

Reporting to the Vice President for Clinical Practice Finance/Vice Dean for Finance and Administration, BSD, the Assistant Dean is an integral member of the management team serving as the primary source of expertise for the BSD’s financial operations and processes.  The Assistant Dean will have oversight of resource planning and is entrusted with providing fiscal and business control processes and decision supports.  The Assistant Dean will serve as a trusted advisor to faculty and staff in the BSD and will be instrumental in partnering and collaborating with colleagues throughout the BSD and the University community on financial goals, budgeting, planning, human capital, research funding, and other areas while advancing world class education, research, and patient care missions.  

The Assistant Dean will be a forward thinking, strategic finance professional with experience in an academic medical environment.  The successful candidate will have at least 15 years of progressively responsible professional experience in financial planning, budgeting, analysis, forecasting, accounting or auditing and related experience, as well as significant experience advising or working for a complex, research-intensive academic medical center.  Demonstrated understanding of FASB and GASB accounting principles is required and candidates will have previous experience in a cost conscious business setting that regularly benchmarks against peers.  The next Assistant Dean will be a highly competent communicator and relationship builder, able to be the business and finance voice of the BSD.  Leveraging technology and improving processes to support sound fiscal operations is integral to the success of this position.
