Little Rock, AR

Job Description

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) invites inquiries, applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean, Northwest (NW) Arkansas Campus, College of Medicine. UAMS is in the midst of transformational change, driven by a clear vision of improving the health of all Arkansans by positioning its clinical programs into an integrated health system with a focus on enhancing its local, state and national reputation.  This is an exciting opportunity for a new Associate Dean to build and strengthen the UAMS footprint for outstanding clinical care, research, community service and education in the northwest part of the state.

As the state’s only medical school, the College of Medicine has held a unique and vital role in Arkansas for more than 130 years. UAMS is the largest public employer in the state of Arkansas with more than 10,000 employees. The College is part of a distinguished, comprehensive academic health sciences center comprising five colleges, a graduate school, seven highly regarded institutes, eight Regional Centers (six of which include family medicine practices and residencies) and a comprehensive Medical Center. The largest UAMS regional campus is located in Fayetteville, Arkansas providing clinical rotations for third and fourth year medical students, as well as residency programs in internal medicine and family medicine.  In addition, other UAMS educational and clinical programs include: a sports medicine fellowship, Psychiatric Research Institute (PRI) Northwest, the Schmieding Center for Senior Adults and the Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) clinics and the future northwest ACH hospital slated to open in 2018.

UAMS seeks a dynamic academic leader with a broad vision for enhancing the clinical, research, community outreach and educational missions in the northwest region.  The next Associate Dean will partner closely and report directly to the UAMS Dean of Medicine, Dr. Pope Moseley, to build and enhance integration, clinical partnerships, research and educational programs through multidisciplinary collaboration in all four mission areas.  Candidates must possess an M.D. degree and board certification. The successful candidate must also demonstrate: 1) progressive administrative leadership experience in an integrated academic medical center environment preferably with regional campuses, 2) national recognition for achievement in research, educational and/or clinical pursuits that would warrant appointment as a faculty member at the professorial rank, and 3) the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across multiple disciplines and geography.
