Witt/Kieffer has been retained by Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA) to assist in the recruitment for their next Chief Compliance Officer (CCO).  We are seeking your confidential nominations or expressions of interest for this exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative, Massachusetts, non-profit health care plan which also provides direct care. CCA is nationally recognized for its role in transforming healthcare for persons dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid. CCA is currently the largest health plan in New England exclusively serving both younger and elderly adults who are eligible for Medicare and Medicaid (MassHealth).

The Chief Compliance Officer will provide overall direction through the strategic development and execution of a healthcare compliance program in support of the mission and strategic goals of Commonwealth Care Alliance. This position will report to Lisa Fleming, the Chief Legal Officer, with a direct line of communication to Christopher Palmieri, President and Chief Executive Officer. The Chief Compliance Officer also reports to the Commonwealth Care Alliance Board of Directors. This executive position serves as a role model for ethical management behavior and promotes an awareness and understanding of positive ethical principles, compliance with federal and state law in all areas of compliance programs and privacy, and assists in planning and identifying priorities for compliance.

Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA) is a unique organization, operating as both a health care provider and health insurer to Massachusetts residents who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid.  It began as a provider in the 1970s and was incorporated as a risk bearing insurance entity in 2003, this mission-driven organization has developed a strong local and national reputation as an innovator in serving clinically complex individuals with extensive socioeconomic needs.  CCA strives to be the national model in providing person-centered, community-based care to support the health, well-being, and independent living of economically disadvantaged persons with a heavy burden of disease and disability.  CCA, through its dedicated team and its partners, currently serves nearly 20,000 members throughout Massachusetts and has annual revenues of approaching $1billion.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten years of experience as an executive in a sizable, complex healthcare payer or provider organization, ideally both. The next CCO of CCA should be a strong, competent, balanced leader who possesses a solid and attractive track record of organizational successes.  The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree while a Master’s Degree, Law Degree, other advanced degree, or a certificate in health compliance is preferred. In addition, candidates must have an outstanding record of achievement with at least ten (10) years experience in healthcare and knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations regarding privacy, healthcare billing, delivery and operations. Experience in a Medicare Advantage health plan is strongly preferred.  Familiarity with operational, financial, quality assurance, and human resource procedures and regulations is required.
