The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) seeks a strategic, collaborative, and financially astute leader to be the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the University of Rochester Medical Faculty Group (URMFG). This position provides an outstanding opportunity for an experienced financial executive in academic medicine who desires the complexity and the challenge of working in one of the nation’s top academic medical centers.

With an overall budget of almost $3.5 billion, URMC forms the centerpiece of the University’s health research, teaching, patient care and community outreach missions. The combined faculty of the School of Medicine and Dentistry at URMC consists of approximately 1,400 full-time faculty members and 650 voluntary clinical faculty members organized into 22 departments and centers. It has an integrated administrative structure led by Medical Center CEO Mark Taubman, MD, an integrated budget, and an integrated strategic plan. The School ranks in the top quartile of U.S. academic medical centers in research funding from the National Institutes of Health.

URMFG serves as URMC’s central resource for the financial and operational management of the practice, credentialing of all faculty physicians and negotiating payment rates with third-party payers. It is certified by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. URMFG is also the principle provider group for Accountable Health Partners (AHP), the University’s clinically integrated network for population health management.

Reporting to the CEO of URMFG and the CFO of URMC, the CFO of URMFG shall provide oversight and leadership for all financial activities of the practice. Principal responsibilities will include furthering on-going transformation to a high-performing multi-specialty group practice as well as working directly with the URMC CFO to more tightly integrate operational and financial managements across the three missions (clinical, research, education). 

In addition to leadership of the practice, the URMFG CFO will have enterprise-wide responsibility for all faculty compensation issues, including the work of the Compensation Committee, decisions regarding Fair Market Value, incentive plan structures, and management. The CFO will also have principal responsibility for the new Fund Flow model, assuring their success in achieving URMC’s strategic objectives through continuous improvement in the model and its execution.
