Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center - Chief Medical Officer

Los Angeles, CA

Job Description

Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center is seeking a collaborative physician leader and advocate to assume the position of Chief Medical Officer (CMO). The CMO will join a unique organization that is termed a “special place” by its many loyal, dedicated physicians and staff as well as the patients and families it serves. The 207-bed hospital itself is essentially two hospitals in one: first, the dedicated acute rehab facility and outpatient services, dedicated to rehabilitation of brain injury, stroke and spinal cord services; second, an acute care hospital dedicated to meeting the acute medical and surgical needs for chronic illness conditions.

Rancho has an illustrious history in shaping rehabilitation care and research. For more than two decades, Rancho has been ranked among the top rehabilitation hospitals by U.S. News and World Report. Rancho is the only rehabilitation facility among the four hospitals in the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. It is affiliated with University of Southern California and has close collaborations with universities across the United States.

The hospital is seeking a highly transparent leader with strengths in operations and personnel management. This physician executive will lead the way, in collaboration with the rest of the leadership team, in utilizing resources wisely with strong attention to quality and efficiency. The CMO duties will include a thorough assessment and review of clinical processes across the organization and resource management to ensure efficient, quality care is delivered to meet the needs of patients on every service.

The CMO must be an inclusive, balanced leader with the ability to successfully position Rancho in improving access, efficiency in care transitions and delivery, consistency with quality metrics, and creating a culture of physician engagement. She/he will communicate and build consensus among the medical staff to align with the goals and strategies of Rancho Los Amigos and the Los Angeles Department of Health Services.

The CMO will possess strong clinical credibility, effective management skills and an enduring commitment to Rancho Los Amigos’ mission and vision. She/he will possess an M.D. or D.O. from an accredited program; board certified by an American Specialty Board; and be licensed to practice medicine in the state of California or eligible to achieve such a license. An advanced degree in business administration, health administration or related area is a plus. Successful candidates will have at least three years of progressive medical administrative experience with a focus on operational, managerial, and clinical excellence at the hospital, departmental, clinic, and/or unit levels, including experience directing multiple medical programs/services that serve diverse patient populations and demographic profiles. Strong leadership skills are most important; a background in rehabilitation is not required.
