UMass Memorial Medical Center (UMMMC) seeks confidential applications, nominations and inquiries for the position of Chief Medical Officer (CMO). This is an outstanding opportunity for a strong, forward thinking physician executive to make a significant impact on clinical care across the continuum at the system’s flagship hospital and across the healthcare system.

Based in Worcester, Massachusetts, UMMMC is a 779-bed facility and serves as the region‘s trusted academic medical center within the largest healthcare system in Central and Western Massachusetts. UMMMC offers a full complement of sophisticated technology and support services, providing the region with specialists renowned for their work in areas such as cardiology, cancer, emergency medicine, minimally invasive surgery, women’s health and children’s medical services, including an internationally recognized newborn intensive care unit.

Reporting to the UMMMC President, with a secondary reporting relationship to the System CMO, this position plays a vital role as a member of the Medical Center’s executive team helping to develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan for clinical programs, the measurement of their effectiveness and operational excellence.  With the organization’s Chief Quality Officer as a direct report, the CMO will also have ultimate executive responsibility for quality and patient safety performance, along with transforming patient experience.

The ideal candidate will bring gravitas, influence and credibility to the role with a spirit of collaboration to join an organization with an esprit de corps. The CMO must be an individual who has improved performance metrics, enhanced patient safety and satisfaction and physician engagement. The CMO will promote a culture of quality, safety and engagement and be seen as a champion and advocate for physicians throughout the organization, promoting transparency among the medical staff.
